What shoes should I wear?
You can start in any shoes you feel comfy in, trainers are also fine! Things I look out for in a pair of shoes that make it easier to dance in are: good ankle support straps or a zip boot, the shoe heel being in the centre of the heel of the foot, no platform, no sticky rubber soles, and ideally an open or at least not pointy toe so they don’t get caught on the floor! Message Hannah if you get stuck, but don’t worry about it too much for your first couple of classes and you don’t even need to start in heels at all!
I’ve never danced before, can I still come?
YES! Beginners classes are perfect for you, and don’t worry, we have people start for the first time alllll the time!
Can I come on my own?
absolutely you can! And most people do! This is a great place to meet new friends, our community is welcoming and friendly, and if you get socially nervous come and find Hannah and she’ll be right there with you every step of the way.
What if I’m the oldest person there?
Honestly, you’d be surprised! We have a really wide age range, from 18 up to mid and late 50’s!
I love having all ages dancing together, it creates such a fun atmosphere and great friendships, one of my girls even comes with her mum, which I absolutely LOVE! Whatever your age, if you want to dance, feel confident, and have a laugh, you’ll fit right in.
What do I wear?
You can wear anything that you feel comfortable in and can move in, whether that’s leggings and a T-shirt or a bikini or somewhere in between, and that can change week to week according to your vibe! We don’t have one uniform or set ‘what your should wear’ but Hannah usually wears something fun and not a lot of fabric so that you can experiment without feeling like the most nakey person in the room. What I would steer clear of is anything off the shoulder or that you feel you’re going to be worried about falling out of while you’re dancing, we want to feel safe and able to concentrate on the class, not worrying about our outfit!
Do I need fancy expensive dance shoes?
you do not! I’ve danced in primark boots and been FINE, but they definitely don’t last as long and I’ve ended up spending the same amount long term on 5 pairs of cheap boots as I have paying once for a spenny pair that’s lasted me months and months. If you’re starting out don’t feel pressure to spend yet, but if you’re looking to upgrade and invest you can use code HEELSANGELS at Joheela to get some fabulous shoes with excellent support and soles made for dancers so they’re suuuuper comfy!
Are men allowed?
If you’re a boy and you want to learn how to dance in heels, you’re SO WELCOME here! My classes are for anyone who wants to feel confident in heels, regardless of gender and everyone deserves to feel comfortable walking through our door. One thing we don’t tolerate in our classes from anybody is disrespectful behaviour, this is a safe space and protecting that will always come first. So if you’re here to learn, cheer everyone else on, and get your sass on, you’ll fit right in!
What if I book and then panic?
Not to worry! You can talk any worries through with Hannah, and you do NOT have to ‘have it all together’ to be able to turn up as you are and have a go. If you do want to cancel, our refunds policy is full refund if it’s over 48 hours notice, half refund for 24 hours notice, and no refund on the day. Message Hannah to sort any of that out, but definitely consider just giving it a go, why the hell not hey?!
